Square Point of Sale
About Square Point of Sale
Square Point of Sale is a cloud-based POS solution for use with iOS and Android devices, or Square’s own point of sale hardware. The software allows users to manage customers, transactions, inventory, invoicing, and payments, with additional tools for managing customer loyalty, marketing, employees, and payroll.
Square offers magstripe, chip, and contactless card readers for accepting payments via debit and credit cards, Google Pay, and Apple Pay. Square Virtual Terminal enables payment collection through a computer, which allows merchants to key in card details so that no card reader is required.
Sell from anywhere
Square Point of Sale helps businesses sell in-person, online, over the phone, or out in the field. Merchants can add a synced online store, sell through Instagram and Facebook, and offer curbside pickup, local delivery, and shipping -- no coding required.
Grow customer relationships
The built-in customer directory can track customer preferences and feedback with every card swipe. Key customer information is added automatically to build profiles, and merchants can search and sort customers to view their purchase histories, target email marketing campaigns, and send more personalized messages that keep customers coming back more often.
Track the health of your business
With Square Dashboard and built-in sales reports on the POS, merchants can access their sales data from any device, with real-time hourly sales reports for each location, transaction and deposit tracking, and more. Square POS helps merchants manage their inventory from anywhere. Products can be imported via CSV and names, prices, and quantities can be edited at any time. Daily stock alert emails notify users of items with low or no stock, and inventory levels can be exported to printable spreadsheets.
Everything is integrated into your POS for a stress-free experience. It’s free to use, and no contracts, fine print, or manuals required.

The POS software is very good especially when I go offline and in person I can collect a payment and continue online and resolve any client information.
Pros
It's seamless with my banking and helps me integrate payments for clients, products, and services
Cons
There are many freemium features that can be an additional benefit on top of the current monthly costs unlike a shopify plan that bundles most offers in one subscription.
Reasons for Choosing Square Point of Sale
The solution was able to solve a pressing need to offer an offline settlement system just in case my clients were not able to access my website.Reasons for Switching to Square Point of Sale

I haven't found any other product that makes me consider switching from Square. They have great hardware to go along with their software and the processing is great as well.
Pros
I've been using Square for over 7 years and find it great to work with. I haven't come across any other product that makes me consider switching.
Cons
There are a few bugs with using the online fulfillment system, but that's about it.

Square POS is actually a little complex to build out of you dont have a background in software or IT. For our coffee shops we use alot of modifiers and variations, so it is difficult to sink up the modifiers with the optons if you are building out for the first time. If you are a business without the modifiers it will be much easier.
Pros
Square POS does exactly what any POS system should do. You upload your items for sale, and you can take payments on your phone, your square reader, or ipad.
Cons
Square Outages are the absolute worst and they are more frequent than anything. they have put my business at a stand still at least once per quarter. We have had to switch to "off line" mode which also wasnt working. We are a coffee shop and most of our sales are from 7am-9am. We have lost so much money from the outages and good luck getting anyone from customer service. It's non-existent. PLUS the fees you pay are astronomical.
Reasons for Switching to Square Point of Sale
We chose square because we use apple products and didnt want to have to buy new hardware. In hindsight we probably have lost more money in outages than new hardward would have cost us. We also now have all of our data from the last few years in Square so its hard to switch.- Industry: Restaurants

I’ve been using Square for 6 years now and like almost everything about it except the lack of pre-authorization on credit cards. The company has been promising this feature for the 6 years I’ve been with them but has yet to come through.
Other than that I have been mostly happy. Customer service is lacking but that seems common with all companies these days. In the end they usually solve the problem, just takes several phone transfers.
This could be a great company but they seemed to have lost the fire that they had when they started.
Pros
System is affordable and fairly straight forward to use. There are lots of features that work well together.
Cons
No pre-authorization of credit cards so you have to hold cards behind bar. This is a real problem on busy nights.

over all i think its a great product and we realistically dont have any complaints.
over all i think its a great product and we realistically dont have any complaints.
Pros
I love that it is again very user friendly and the processing fees are low and the processing speed is fast.
Cons
I dont like that you cant go back and look at a last name from the card used in processing of a payment u would have to go on line and do 4 different steps if you needed to clarify an error .
