Hours back each week: Teachers spend about five hours a week marking (OECD TALIS). Qalami drafts the marks and feedback for a whole class set, so the teacher's time goes on checking and adjusting rather than writing everything from scratch.

The teacher stays in charge: Every mark is a draft until a teacher approves it. Each score shows the line of student writing it is based on, so checking a mark is quick.

Works for Arabic as well as English: Bilingual schools can mark English and Arabic writing in one place. Qalami reads Arabic handwriting, marks in Arabic against Arabic rubrics, and the whole interface runs right to left.
