About Alooma

Alooma provides data pipeline as a service, and Alooma's can be used to export, transform, and load data into BigQuery, Redshift, and Snowflake for artificial intelligence(AI), machine learning, analytics, business intelligence (BI), and reporting. The platform offers a code engine, data mapper, a restream queue for error processing, and a live data visualization tool for data stream monitoring.

  • Integration with GitHub allows users to write managed and versioned code in their own environment, and automatically updates Alooma as users commit code.

  • The built-in data integrity engine and Restream Queue automatically catches unloaded events resulting from data type mismatches or schema changes, acting as a safety net to ensure no data is lost.

  • Alooma connects to Kinesis streams and Kafka topics, allowing users to view events, measure metrics, collect data, and filter streams in real-time.

    A Great Way to Outsource a Lot of ETL

    Pros

    There's a lot that goes into an ETL pipeline and Alooma has a lot of those pieces covered. Even from just using the product, it's obvious that the foundational organization of Alooma's code and features is well thought out and we've been able to very quickly add data sources that we need without a large engineering burden.

    Cons

    Some of the features are only present in the API and haven't yet made its way to the UI/dashboard. It would definitely be helpful to have consistency here.

    We are moving away from Alooma

    It was good while we were small and had small problems to fix, but it's not scalable.

    Pros

    The data transformations were quick and easy to do because it was in Python and you were able to sample from the data pool to test the transformations before pushing them live.

    Cons

    As our company grew, Alooma was not able to handle the increasing data pipelines and would often break and the UI became way too messy.

    Not easy to use and navigate, missing many functionalities

    Pros

    Compare to other ETL/ELT tools I done't see anything good in Alooma.
    It's just data pipeline, with no visibility on data movement.

    Cons

    A lot of cons, lacking the capabilities to transform data.
    Not user friendly, data debug very difficult.
