Instagram Overview

What is Instagram?

Instagram is a social media app which lets users share photos and videos from their smartphones, as well as like and comment on other users’ posts, send private messages, search for relevant content, and more. Users can view their feed from any web browser, but can only upload photos and videos through the native apps for iOS and Android.

Instagram includes a range of filters and editing tools which users can apply to their photos and videos before posting. The exposure, brightness, contrast, saturation, warmth, fade, and other aspects of photos can be adjusted, and users can also add text and drawings on top of their photos and videos. Up to 10 photos and videos can be published in a single post, and filters can be applied in bulk across a whole post, or to individual images. Videos can be shared with or without audio, and users can control which frame of a video is presented as the cover image. Captions, hashtags, and locations can be added to posts, enabling users to search for relevant content.

The Stories feature allows users to post photos and videos which are displayed at the top of their followers’ feeds, and disappear after 24 hours. Users can send direct messages to each other, containing their own photos or videos, text, posts from their feed, other users’ profiles, hashtags, and locations. Disappearing photos and videos can also be sent directly to other users, which can be viewed twice before they disappear.

My overall experience with Instagram has been good. They've come a long way. One of the best features was/is the ability to schedule posts via third party apps. Clients and myself were getting frustrated at the amount of steps needed, but it has improved.

Pros

Instagram is the easiest way to reach audience and expose your product. Hashtags are all you need to get yourself visible and even without paying for ads you can reach a whole new audience. Instagram makes it easy to also make your business more personable. Rigid ads and canned language won't help you here, the best way is to be social and real. Show more than just your product, but your lifestyle (or the lifestyles of those who use your product) to really reach the audience.

Cons

Absolutely no support if you have issues with the app; you will need to reach out to external support groups. Spam is almost unbearable.

Pros

I like the ease of use, hashtags offerings (creating lists to follow, looking at interests, etc..). I like the stories feature which allows people to watch a short story or keep watching the full video. I'm also loving the fact that Instagram is one of, if not the best way to become an influencer. An Instagram account and quality pics will go far for a personal or business brand.

Cons

There aren't too many things that I don't like about Instagram. The only thing I would like to see is usernames be made available if they are not in use. Instagram purges every so often, but some people need their handles now lol.

Pros

It is a visual medium which makes it more attractive for the business though it is very competitive. I have always loved the features of Instagram. IGTV is something I hang on mostly and among the features I like the most.

Cons

I wish Instagram also had a web version and the privacy settings could be assigned for individual pictures.

Pros

It is very popular with high engagement rates therefore it provides the brands with access to large audiences, directly or through influencers.

Cons

For an account with less than 10000 followers the convertions tracking is very difficult as urls are not allowed. Additionally the in app advertising interface as well as the analytics are of really poor quality. Sure we can manage ads from Facebook Ads but not if we want the "Visit profile " CTA which is crucial for followers growth.

Pros

I Instagram is great for small business owners. It is very easy to promote posts and gain customers through advertisements. I Instagram also provides great insights. These include things such as how many people viewed my post their gender, their age, where they’re from, and much more valuable information.

Cons

I Instagram does not have the best customer support. They have no customer support number, so you are forced to write an email. another con is that there are a lot of spam messages. Fake Instagram accounts often add my account to random group chats.
