About Strategic Roadmaps
Strategic Roadmaps by Tempo is web-based software designed to help create and share attractive visual roadmaps for product management. The solution enables the entire team to efficiently collaborate in planning the future steps of a product. Product managers and stakeholders can weigh in on a plan's development, utilizing the solution as a visualization tool through several view types, resources and data sets.
Strategic Roadmaps enables users to create multiple types of custom roadmaps and seamlessly drag and drop them onto the collaborator. The sprint roadmap creates a visual short term plan for upcoming sprints; the project roadmap provides vital status updates to stakeholders; and the release roadmap helps plan out long term releases across various product lines. Strategic Roadmaps' unlimited roadmap pivots enable users to filter and visualize one data set for each unique stakeholder.
Team collaboration features enable organizations to track consensus in a single, shared space, and discuss plans across multiple roadmaps by adding comments directly into the platform. Strategic Roadmaps allows users to visualize progress and indicate tactical achievements by adding milestone markers to a roadmap. Product managers can add custom color palettes and branding to differentiate departments, product line stage, or project progress status. Users can also set custom access permissions by assigning different user roles to participants.
Strategic Roadmaps' reviewer mode allows users to securely share roadmaps with stakeholders for feedback. All roadmaps are ‘presentation ready’ and can be published to PDF, PNG, and PowerPoint using Strategic Roadmaps' export engine. Users can store and manage roadmaps locally on a computer, or share the latest edits as a private HTML version with a password and hash encrypted URL. The solution integrates with JIRA to bring extra visibility to stakeholders by importing issues and epics into Strategic Roadmap.
Key benefits of Strategic Roadmaps
1. Strategic Roadmaps' reviewer mode allows product managers to securely share roadmaps with stakeholders for feedback, without risking any unwanted edits or changes.
2. Users can attach files directly to roadmaps by dropping them onto an item card, such as notes, screenshots, and videos.
3. Strategic Roadmap lets users share the right plans with the right audience using personalized views, and helps speed up stand-ups with clear, understandable sprint visualizations.
4. Teams can efficiently connect and coordinate requirements, and spend time adding value to products rather than updating reports.
5. Product managers can assign users as either a collaborator, viewer, or owner of a roadmap and set access permissions to individual team members.

The ease to onboard for a user who has never used the software before is exceptional.

The fact that you have to have precise dates, which creates a sense of false precision among the org

Pleasantly Surprised Every Time I Use Roadmunk

I am the sole user on our team, and the only one 'playing' with the product to get the most out of it. I don't have very much time, but when I am able to dedicate attention to entering our broad-ranging roadmapping wishlist items, I always walk away a little bit delighted and a little bit excited about what we'll be able to show. It does take strategy to make decisions about what fields to include, and that is the tough part to figure out. I scheduled office hours for a 1:1 coaching session, and it was incredibly helpful. The consultant 'got me' exactly. Just the right amt of info for that moment. Of course I'll have more.
Pros
Roadmunk strikes the right balance between allowing you to add custom fields your data and providing prompts and formats for you to include common fields for roadmapping. One example is the ability to toggle between setting dates and putting in buckets. Hand in hand with that is a UI and nomenclature that is on-target and mostly avoids introducing confusion. Care was obviously taken in this respect.
I can also say that the sharing options (to HTML, etc.) are what absolutely seals the deal. Stakeholders can have access to the (constantly updated) product without forcing them to have accounts.
Cons
Sub-items are sluggish to add and move around. As someone who is a power user of Gannt charting programs, it's a little bit of a challenge to get used to the way sub-items work in Roadmunk. I would like to see the ability to configure views so that you can roll up all sub-items under a parent and treat the parent as the only thing that matters in that view. That said, I'm really glad the functionality is included, and I'm optimistic about the evolution.
I also don't like how pale and small some of the UI elements are. I have some mild visual impairment, so the colors help a lot. I would like to see the ability to scale up or down the ratio of colored area to text size.

Not for small organizations

Pros
The setup is fairly easy, but that also means there are not many features to explore atleast at a "starter" package
Cons
Their customer service is very upfront - starter package is of no use and there are no features in there - very hard upsell, and the number of features are not that great as compared to the competition.
I was also told that this is a one-off call and they wont be supporting any 1:1 demos/discussions unless I pay more. By the ways I was invited to the call.

Overall really great but frustrated with the setup of a visualization, anxious when playing with it in real time in meetings because of task moving issues mentioned above.
Pros
Visualizations and documentation of roadmap tasks. Sharing with external parties is easy.
Cons
Baseline management would be nice, right now we are copying and archiving versions every quarter and then have to compare them. On a timeline it is frustrating to move tasks, often they merge with other lines or reorder lines (this order is also not saved when archiving old roadmaps so I need to redo the visualizations and settings). Would like integration with Jira to be 2 way, if updating cards statuses in Jira or comments it would be nice if it updated in Roadmunk.

My two cents about my Roadmunk experience

Roadmunk is a tool that I use to give me an overview of several timelines or key dates that can impact other project. I also create specific visual for timelines and monitoring tasks for different type of projects.
Pros
What I like the most is the way that I can feature the work plan, phases on a timeline or on a swim lane by listing some items. It's also very nice to have the possibility to add sub-items, it makes everything so much clearer.
Cons
What I like the least about the software is when I need to change the features of my timeline or swim lane, I feel that the menu on the left is not that user friendly.
Also, my work is full of diversity and even tho I can understand the bonus of not having always to replicate fields while starting a new roadmunk, in my position every map is built for a different project that has a different team, or tasks, so it becomes difficult to create and identify which field is for which roadmunk.
