About Dropbox Business

Dropbox Business is an off-site server for file sharing and storage. It allows users to sync their files online and across devices automatically. Dropbox Business brings files together, in one central place. They’re easy to find and safely synced across all devices, so users can access them anytime, anywhere. Handle files as users would on their desktop with Dropbox. Add, edit, erase and then access them on secure servers from any device (PC, Mac, iPhone, Android & Windows Phone).

Key benefits of Dropbox Business

  • When editing a shared file, everyone gets the update automatically.

  • Automatically back-up photos from the camera roll on a phone or computer. They´ll be saved in date order for users to create albums with and share. 30 days of undo history enables users to restore accidentally deleted files.

  • Share files and photos - even with someone without a Dropbox account.

  • Save any kind of file in Dropbox and sync them across all devices (PC, Mac, Android, iPad, iPhone or Windows Phone).

Dropbox, an incredible platform to protect and store documents, to share them with coworkers.

I have used Dropbox in both Windows and MacOS environments and its behavior is extremely stable. A learning curve is not required for its use, since it is quite intuitive, and frees us from worrying about the protection and correct storage of our documents, to deal with the most important thing, which is precisely the operation of our company.

    Pros

One of the features that I have loved the most is selective synchronization, since it allows me to keep the documents that I work with regularly updated, and not occupy additional local space on my device for those directories that have documents that I am not working on. So, when I spend periods of time on my laptop without connecting and I decide to access Dropbox, the synchronization will be fast and effective.

    Cons

There are great features in Dropbox that we learn as we use it or investigate how it works; for example: a blue folder with a person symbol is a shared folder, maybe with some difference for mobile apps or desktop app. In the same way, we have excellent icons that let us know when a folder is shared with others or that it has been shared with me instead. In general, it is very intuitive and its usability can be described as excellent.

Dropbox for Business does not offer security settings for subfolders. Data loss prevention measures can be implemented, but as third parties are involved, implementing this sharing system may take longer. This is time that some companies may not have. These pros and cons of Dropbox for Business show that this sharing system is designed to be comprehensive, but only when the product includes third-party functionality. This can increase costs.

    Pros

Synchronization: Dropbox lets you effortlessly synchronize files once they've been uploaded to an account.A very user-friendly experienceThe ability to limit access to shared data

    Cons

This is an expensive solution for the average small business owner.Sometimes it can be difficult to find folders or files.

    Reasons for Choosing Dropbox Business

I used google drive for a collaborative project that didn't have enough budget. We hadn't been able to free up the budget to buy a paid version of dropbox, which meant we had to switch to a paid version.

Reasons for Switching to Dropbox Business

I chose dropbox because I'd been hearing about it for a long time, even before google drive. So I had no interest in choosing software other than the one I'd heard about.

Overall, this is a great software option for companies to use if they don't need very robust security features (ie HIPPA/FERPA) options. It is very easy for multiple teams and companies to work together to house documents and see what version of the document they are looking at. The software is easy to sync up to a desktop and always ensure that the web version vs your desktop is the same. It is also easy to see comments and who updated the latest version of the document. The way that the documents are organized could use to some work, but overall, this is a good product that can house a lot of documents in the same place and are accessible via mobile and desktop in a very simple way. No set up is needed and no in depth tech knowledge is needed, which is a great option for any company to be able to allow anyone to administer the account.

    Pros

The nice part about Dropbox is that it is pretty easy to use and has a free option if you are looking to use it for personal use. The software is easy to switch between mobile and desktop and has a pretty basic way to organize documents, pictures, etc in folders. It is also easy to share the docs/folders with a link or make them public, if needed. We utilize this software to share documents across multiple companies for different projects and house the different versions of the documents in a single place.

    Cons

Security updates are lacking when compared to alternatives like Box. We need to keep a very specific set of security functionality for our documents in the higher education industry and Dropbox is not meeting the needs of our industry any longer; therefore, we have to be selective on what documents we are using the software for now. I am sure that Dropbox will update their security functions soon, but in the meantime, we have to be selective on what we use it for. Would be nice if you could organize documents in a different way to make it more efficient to find what you are looking for, as well as comments. I do like that you can see which version of a doc you are looking at right way; however, it is still a pretty old school mentality for organization and collaboration vs all of the other software out there now. This is a good repository to house documents (if it meets your security standards) but doesn't meet the ever changing needs of a robust collaboration tool that we needed it for.

My overall experience as a user has been great. I love how easy it is to navigate and use. It is also easy to give instructions to patients to use.

    Pros

What I like most is how efficient it is to send patient documents while having them signed and returned to my drop box prior to their appointments.

    Cons

I have not found anything I dislike, it works efficiently for us!

Once I began growing my company Dropbox was essential. It allowed me to collaborate with my subordinates and I was able to easily upload documents for them to review and use for the customers we were working with. I can also send lending institutions links to the folder if I can't use the google share feature because of their firewall.

    Pros

The amount of space I got for free! Also, the file sharing, and document management. It is so convenient to be able to edit the dropbox folder right from my windows explorer. I have the dropbox folder on my quick access tollbar.

    Cons

I have had an issue with folder I made. For some reason it keeps saying I need administrator access to delete the file, but I am the administrator. It's not a huge deal but it is a little annoying because the folder is rather large and I can't delete it. It's taking up valuable space.

Reasons for Switching to Dropbox Business

I use it as additional tool for collaboration and document management. I use One Drive for my personal cloud storage. I use Google drive to keep track of documents I receive through my email. I use Dropbox to send document folders to my subordinates and lending institutions I work with.
