In the end, I’m happy with Slack as the primary tool for our organization. However, I’d recommend pairing it with another communication platform, like Teams or Google Workspace, to ensure you have all the features you need. The simplicity of Slack is great, but it can also be a bit of a double-edged sword.
Pros
Slack stands out for its simplicity and ease of use, making it effortless to communicate with colleagues via channels or direct messages. The ability to organize conversations into threads adds a layer of structure, keeping things tidy. Plus, you can integrate it with other tools like GitHub, which can be a real benefit.
Cons
However, compared to Microsoft Teams or Google Workspace, Slack's integrations with third-party services are somewhat limited, which can feel restrictive. While video calls are seamlessly built into Teams or Google Chat, Slack requires an external platform for that feature, which can be a bit inconvenient if you're already using it as your main communication tool.

Started using Slack about 8 years ago and i'll never go back. If you are part of a remote team and want an employee engagement platform to help with company communication, Slack is your best bet!
Pros
Incredibly easy to communicate across multiple channels and departments. Easy to create sub groups for project management efficiency.
Cons
The free version has a ton of limitation and almost requires you to pay for the upgraded version.

It's very similar to sending an email because there is no interactive engagement. So for that reason, there are other platforms I prefer (like Teams).
Pros
Slack is easy to setup and you can join a variety of group chats.
Cons
It is not possible to see if your message has been ready or if someone is typing or responding.

My remote team loves slack! So much easier to use than Gmail's chat feature! We love that it is easy to use on our phones, too!
Pros
I love that I can easily communicate with my remote team, schedule impromptu video calls, and integrate apps! I also branded our slack channel to our company's brand!
Cons
Slack will notify you with notes about your apps, tags, etc. It can get confusing if you get a lot of notifications (ex. a note that your google drive file might not be accessible to everyone in the channel). You have to close out the notification to remove it from your channel feed. It's only visible to you, but still annoying!

I’ve been using Slack for about 5 years. Before that, I tried two other popular corporate messengers. In my opinion, Slack is the best corporate messenger on the market.
One of the best features is its integration capabilities. For example, we integrated Slack with our web application, so now we receive instant notifications in Slack whenever a critical issue arises, allowing us to react immediately.
I also use Slack for saving project-related notes. It’s convenient to keep everything organized and easily accessible in one place.
Pros
Slack is incredibly user-friendly and makes it easy to manage multiple workspaces, enabling simultaneous communication both within my company and with customers. I especially like the threads feature—it helps keep discussions organized and makes it easy to find information when needed. I also like the customizations and automation you can set up, which saves time.
Cons
I use Slack on both my phone and laptop, but sometimes I have an issue where I can’t answer a call on my laptop because it’s active on my phone instead.
Also, sometimes when a colleague calls me using Apple headsets, I can’t hear them.

Slack is wonderful—it’s never a question of its usefulness. It gives our team the opportunity to grow, connect, and collaborate effortlessly. Slack is easy to train on and lets you show off your personality. It also has many hacks and tricks that most people don’t know about, like setting reminders, sharing a GIF instantly, and mentioning individuals, only those online, or an entire channel. It’s a smart system that I love using.
Pros
The ease of communication between teams, colleagues, and even adding a second or third company is so easy. I also love how easy it is to start a 'video call' huddle with anyone in your organization. With one click, you’re chatting over video, sharing your screen, and connecting with someone on the other side of the world. It also integrates very well with Zapier, Google, Asana, Calendly and many more.
Cons
I'm not sure if this is a Slack issue or a user issue. I’m an Apple product fanatic; however, when my Slack is buzzing with notifications from all the workflows and channels I’m in, my phone, laptop, and watch all go off simultaneously, which can be overstimulating. Although I’ve turned off notifications on my watch (for my sanity), there are times I wish only certain channels would communicate to it.

My experience with Slack has been really positive. It’s incredibly user-friendly, with all the tools for both quick, casual chats and more structured team collaboration. I love how easy it is to send files like spreadsheets and data right in the chat, so we don’t have to jump between different platforms. The fun features, like GIFs, stickers, and video clips, add a nice touch of personality, making remote work feel more connected and personal.
Pros
I love how Slack makes our virtual office feel more alive! It's easy to use, and I’m all about the fun features like stickers and videos that let me add some personality. Plus, I can send all kinds of work stuff—like sheets and data—which is super useful. It definitely makes work chats feel more efficient and way more enjoyable!
Cons

It is reliable, consistent but not so "fun", the company I worked for has started to use Gather to make our home office interactions feel more personal. As you need to move to another person's desk and interact with them or see if they are talking to someone else. In slack you can see they are in a huddle or busy with a Google Meet but when off you can chat with them but need to wait for that person to read you and answer instead of just being able to talk to to them without "ringing".
Pros
I can set up channels that will remain fixed instead of chats that get lost in between all the chats. I like that I can star chats and channels to reach them easily.
Cons
When I start a huddle, the call window gets lost or is small, and when I make it wider, it doesn't pop up immediately in the front and I have to look for it between all my open windows. Also, I didn't get the lists feature , I have no idea what is the value of it for me as a product manager that uses Jira.

My time with Slack

My overall experience with slack was beneficial when communicating with other team members during the process. When you take the time to figure out the organization process, and receive instruction on how to use the software than things seemed to run smoothly.
Pros
When using slack to communicate with former employers and coworkers in training I noticed it's efficient communication tools. One example of this is that you can operate the program by creating different channels. Operating in different channels is key to organization when you want to transition from different communication sources between individuals. Another important feature that slack offers is file sharing. File sharing allows you to share with others, and you also have the choice to file share with another privately. The program seemed to operate smoothly without any glitches. Slack is a great way to communicate and is suggested for Employer's new hires.
Cons
The only disadvantage I have had by using Slack were minor annoyances when finding some of my former conversations. I also feel that many icons made my scrolling around the program disorganized.
