Excel is still the most reliable spreadsheet and vital business tool for every organization

Excel is a great tool for users who work on large amounts of data and can handle complex calculations with 100% accuracy. It allows you to create pivot tables, sort, retrieve and analyze data, perform macros in VBA, build charts, tables, and many more features in a breeze! As an Accountant by profession, Excel has always been my best buddy throughout my career progression up until now and it never ceases to amaze me about the powerful features that I’ve yet to discover and utilize for more productivity and efficiency in my work.

My top favorite Excel features are the following:
- Scalable formula and calculation functions (IF, SUMIF, VLOOKUP, INDEX-MATCH, etc.): Excel allows you to extend the formula up, down, across the spreadsheet. You just need to create the formula once in one cell and Excel will help you to populate the formula in the designated rows/columns in your report.
- Excel shortcut keys: it dramatically increases my productivity by using these tricks. It makes you look like a Pro and believe me, anyone will get intimidated when they see you typing so fast without using any mouse!
- Conditional formatting: it makes your data more sophisticated and visually appealing to the users of the information.
- Pivot tables: works like a magic when reviewing hundreds of thousands or even millions of data in one spreadsheet.
- Paste special: copy+paste from one source to your spreadsheet with options of maintaining the formatting, value, comments, or even formula.

Pros

- Able to organize voluminous data into orderly, logical spreadsheets and charts
- Allows simple to complex formula and calculations quickly regardless of the amount of data
- Microsoft Office and Google sheet integration

Cons

- Learning curve; it takes a lot of practice and training in order to advance your Excel skills.
- Calculation errors; Excel will never know whether the data you inputted is correct or not.
- Expensive cost of entry; Google sheets is free

Overall, Excel is extremely valuable and easy to use for my financial analyses.

Pros

I really like all the features within Excel. It really makes analysis easy and customizable. I really like the integration with PowerQuery as it makes it easy to create reporting from other sources.

Cons

Mostly small things. Formatting can take some time. Copying only rows that are visible should be more intuitive when working with a filtered data set.

My review on Microsoft Excel

The principal project that I truly scholarly a great deal about Excel in was building an accounting page to track and plan my course enrollments with as a rookie in school. I needed to figure my aggregate GPA and GPA by term, and I needed to design the entirety of the courses I would take every semester from my first semester in school to my final remaining one. By that point I realized how to utilize rotate tables and some other information decrease recipes, yet I didn't actually have a clue how to utilize query works yet. I assembled a large portion of that bookkeeping page around a capacity to naturally ascertain letter grades dependent on rates, and afterward essential SUM capacities for the GPA computations.

The subsequent case was for designing and cleaning a humungous fix of information in my last semester of school. 32 cycle Excel wasn't made for the errand I was utilizing it for around there, however it worked effectively with some content cleanup that I would not like to figure out how to do utilizing standard articulations somewhere else.

This experience was and stays educational for me. I learned more a long time of doing those undertakings than my companions who took classes to learn Excel.

Pros

Colossal degree as Excel has mathematical and literary capacities; you can add hyperlinks and pictures thus significantly more. Numerous sheets can assist it with acting practically like a social information base when joined with separating and arranging capacities. Mistake catching should be possible utilizing.

Cons

The one fundamental hindrance of the extent of MS Excel is that an excessive number of individuals are self trained and the manner in which they have made the accounting page is undocumented so over the long run individuals attempt to alter and present mistakes. Naming cells makes formulae more significant and simpler to fathom. I once attempted to figure out an accounting page individuals had been utilizing for a very long time and found there was an entire section of qualities incorrectly being remembered for an equation. Somebody had been advised to erase a section however they had quite recently concealed it from see so every one of the qualities were all the while being included messing genuine up. Knowing the contrast between concealing qualities and erasing them is quite major.

The Best Spreadsheet platform in the world (Excel By Microsoft)

Very Good application as a whole. It does what i want it do and what it was designed to be used for.

Pros

If you are familiar with any other Microsoft software such as Word Or PowerPoint for example then it is certain you will immediately understand the way the interface has been designed, which is very user friendly.
I believe that anybody can learn how to use excel because of how simplistic the design is and also because there is even a function button that tells you exactly what you can use to perform a certain action using excel where it even simply gives you the option to search using words what it is you want to do. For e.g if you searched 'plus' or 'add' excel will present you with a function that you can use to add the value of two or more cells together,

Cons

There are not many cons to excel as i feel it is a software that has been designed to do exactly what is expected if it without any issues but if i were to mention a few cons it would be things that do not really have a negative effect on the application has a whole but rather just aspects that could have been improved on.
Excel is not 100%. although there are security features in place like locking editing and so forth nothing prevents another person from simply access the data that may be stored in a table and then mimicking it in a brand new spreadsheet.
Its difficult to troubleshoot when getting an error. Sometimes it may give you an error code but never telling you why exactly for a example maybe a function did not carry out. So now that requires new users to look up the error code to see what it actually means and why certain things are not working for them ehich i feel uses unnecessary time of the user

A workhorse for number-crunchers

I've been using Excel for so long, I transitioned from Lotus 1-2-3. It is without a doubt, the standard spreadsheet tool for use in business. The entire Microsoft Office suite is sort of expected when you are collaborating with people in other firms. That long basis as a business standard has led Excel to have a sort of consistency and regularity that makes it very appealing. The complexity I mention above is mostly hidden "under the hood," and beginners can pick it up and start using it for basic stuff pretty quickly. If you need all the power, or you work with people at other companies, there is no other choice but Excel in most cases. For many or most users, however, something like Numbers is probably adequate.

Pros

Excel is full-featured. If you can think of a feature you would want, it probably has it. It may be buried somewhere, but it is there. It is like a powerful sports car in a station wagon body.

Cons

Excel has so many features, it can be difficult to use: All that depth and power leads to incredible complexity. Between the ribbons and the menus, and all of the other user interface "features," it can be like using two or three different programs at once. So many features have been crammed in over the years, it can be hard to figure out what's there and how to get to it. I've helped many beginners with learning Excel, and so much of what is obvious to me is completely opaque to them, and likewise, there are many advanced, number-crunching and heavy-lifting features that I just have no idea about. Most people I work with consider me a super-power-user, and I probably use less than 10% of what Excel can do!

Alternatives Considered

Numbers

Reasons for Switching to Microsoft Excel

I use both Excel and Numbers, depending upon whether I am working on a complex job that needs to be shared with other offices (Excel), or a simpler job that only I will ever touch, especially if I need pretty graphics, text-based tables, etc. (Numbers).

As an Operations Manager of a small company I wear many hats in what I do on a day to day basis (Accountant, CFO, COO, Projects Manager, etc). I use excel to analyze financial data, create/monitor projects, oversee day to day operations, and many more tasks. I wouldn't be able to do my job without Excel and would highly recommend that every organization take advantage of what this software has to offer.

Pros

This software is absolutely essential to my job on a day to day basis. The amount of functionality this software has is incredible (far superior to other products on the market). What I love most about this software is the way you can take raw data and create a formula, algorithm, graph, chart, etc that can tell a very detailed story. As an operations manager of a small company I have to wear many hats and all of my projects typically begin and end with Excel. Even though this product is more expensive to other free alternatives on the market, I would still consider Excel a must-have within any organization.

Cons

The price can be a determining factor for some people given there are free alternatives on the market today, but I would still recommend getting Excel because in the end you are getting more than what you pay for. There is a bit of a learning curve when it comes to using this software but there are numerous amounts of instructional videos online on how to use some of the complicated formulas this software is capable of. However, with a little bit of practice you will be able to interpret raw data with ease.

Alternatives Considered

Google Slides, WPS Office and Apache OpenOffice Calc

Reasons for Switching to Microsoft Excel

I chose Excel over these alternatives simply because of the amount of functionality Excel has to offer. I enjoy the User Interface Excel offers and Excel is also more compatible to other devices, programs, and softwares than anything else on the market.

In very simple words, Excel is a market pioneer in offering database services. Its function is essential and of great value for business growth, it also combines permanent updates that meet the demands of today's market.

Pros

Many people have told us "why do you use Excel if you work with editorial projects, with literature, music, culture and traditions", but, it is the most erroneous concept I have heard in all my life. I say this because in our exponential growth as an editorial line, Microsoft Excel has contributed greatly to strengthen each of our internal processes and the interrelationship with our direct suppliers, customers, general public and internal ordering of the information we are capturing and systematizing.

Thanks to Microsoft Excel we can organize, systematize and file each one of our advances in different types of files organized and defined by compilations, chapters, authors, types of traditions, musical aspects and other typifications defined by all our team. Currently we have a large database where we also host our suppliers, trusted bookstores, potential customers and our greatest treasure, the public that attends each of our activities, book baptisms, musical and artistic presentations. Excel brilliantly combines organizational practicality with information exposure, making it an absolutely necessary software for the growth of our editorial line.

Cons

As databases grow, it is important to diversify the management of these databases among the different members of our team, because when we have to hire new staff, it is difficult for them to understand precisely each of the elements described in the database. Sometimes we have had to make introductory courses to the staff only to understand the composition of each of our databases.

Handling the day today tasks has become very much easy for me. Why wouldn't it be? With Microsoft Excel hours of my day can be saved and yet the tasks could be done with utmost efficiency and asolutely accurate.

Pros

The industry standard spreadsheet Excel has made my life much easier. I use Excel at least 3 times a day. From organising my daily schedule, budgets, calorie charts to fulfill my academic errands of simple and complex arithmetic functions.
Excel has proved to be user friendly and is being constantly updated. The versatile functionalities of Excel has simplified even the complex tricky day today tasks. I find it very convenient that the information can be represented graphically, especially when being shared. The filter system in which information can be filtered using numerals, keywords comes very much handy during quick reference. The suggestions with keywords has simplified the use of Excel further and I found myself using it more often - not to mention the accuracy.
Excel can be installed in to your PCs, mac and even your android phones.
My life has become much easier with Microsoft Excel and I love it!

Cons

As much as Excel simplifies complex tasks, understanding certain complex functionalites of Excel is a great challenge.
I've messed up big time when it comes to dragging formulas over to a set of data or when copy pasting.
Further printing a spread sheet is very difficult, considering that the cell alignments and margins has to be repeatedly adjusted.
Sharing large Excel files is a challenge, which seems to be a drawback .
Excel should be modified as to being able to reset the password of protected files ; the lack of which is extremely inconvenient.

The best thing since sliced bread

Reviewed on 13/03/2019

Pros

I remember once, many years ago I had a teacher saying that Excel was originally created to augment and support another spreadsheet program. However by the time they finished developing the original version it far out-shined the program it was meant to support. So much so that the other software was dropped entirely in favor of Excel. I don't know how factual this recounting is, but it wouldn't surprise me if it is true.

Excel rocks. I use it all the time for my business. Yes I also have Quick Books and other accounting software. But nothing beats a good ol spreadsheet. I can put all of my numbers in and edit them with an endless amount of formulas.

It is truly mind-boggling the depth of the program too. Sure it can auto-sum columns and sort data by the 3rd letter of someone's name, but it can do much much much more. I once created a program inside of excel to aid in the scanning of bar codes. We had a bar code scanner that would simply dump all scanned data into a single column in excel. Using the built in scripting I created a button that (after dumping the data in) would auto sort the data into it's necessary column and prep the sheet for printing and signatures. Not only that but I set it so that at the push of a button the end user could create the next week, month, or even yearly document at the press of a button.

Also, using O365 you can have multiple people editing the same document simultaneously. This is Huge! No more editing copies of copies.

Cons

I really can't think of any. I suppose how fun it is. I've wasted many many hours creating complex spreadsheets for my simple budget merely because I wanted too.

The organization is the most important aspect for any enterprise, or any work is fulfilled within the time lapses established, Excel is very easy to assemble formats within the office with instructions, which at the same time allow workers to add comments on relevant work elements for them within each process they carry out. Another benefit that we have observed when using Excel is the possibility of molding it to the activities that each department needs, of course, I do not mean the editing of a video or much better to the photographic edition, but in daily tasks for reports of activities and compliance with them. In addition, another great benefit is the little training that must be given because most of the staff already know the basic elements, which saves a lot of money in training.

Pros

I really like that despite having so many years, it still includes improvements and cares about making the experience closer to the user. It is one of the most installed programs in the world, which allows me to do my work plans, schedules, relationships and other formats that I have, without worrying about compatibility. Another thing that I like most, is that I can automate processes that without Excel will take me a long time to do, especially in those activities of organization of publications in social networks, it is enough to make some formulas to keep a relation of each post and the content. Many people do not know the almost unlimited capabilities that Excel offers for all types of jobs, just having a little creativity and desire to do things better with this great tool of work.

Cons

I am an advocate of the use of Excel for all administrative activities that are made from the office, however, I think they could make known all the benefits offered, not everyone knows the scope, the rest I find no negative aspects to highlight .

I use Excel daily for my job. Over the last year as I have learned things like vlookup, pivot tables, and how to set up various formulas, it has gone from a spreadsheet program to a powerful tool.

Pros

For basic tasks this product is intuitive and very easy to use. Easy to learn formulas and simple mathematical equations can turn this basic product into a very powerful tool. You can quickly and easily find the sum or difference between two values. You can find duplicates values in a column or row. You can color code cells, columns, or rows. Excel includes most of the basic text formatting features that Word contains as well. Learning vlookup has changed my life. Learning Pivot Tables has also been a great help.

Cons

There can be a learning curve for some of the more advanced features, such as Pivot Tables or VLookup; having someone around who can help you get started can be very helpful. You have to consider the cost when compared to similar, free products such as Google Sheets. Google Sheets does is not quite as robust but it is free and contains most of the basic functionality as Excel.

When you don't know the software, some features can be scary.
Errors are not well explained which is a real problem when you don't know where the error comes from and you are a beginner.
Training is sometimes necessary to reveal the full potential of the software in order to use the features to their maximum. This sometimes requires a lot of time.
It still lacks the possibility of collaborative work which is present in other competitors. I find this a real shame.

Excel - Both Useful and Satisfyingly Fun!

Excel is a staple part of our business, with every day use and functionality we can't operate without. I'm a huge fan, and recommend Excel to other businesses and individual users. And play with conditional formatting - it's both incredibly useful, and satisfyingly fun!

Pros

We use Excel on a daily basis - it opens with a snap, and does all the math for us (my favorite part!). More specifically, beyond basic bath, the formatting tools allow the use of Excel as a powerful document management tool, from acquisition evaluation calculations to database exports to charting and reporting, we are able to format the display and printouts to our needs. The conditional formatting options also allow us to provide user-friendly tools that provide visual feedback to users on when they've entered an incorrect type of data, such as putting a positive in for an expense line. I've been using Excel since 1999, and while competitors exist, I haven't found any to be quite as powerful and as consistently user-friendly as Excel itself.

Cons

The navigation from cell to cell leaves a wee bit to be desired. Specifically, the format drag and copy options, when you have your lovely perfect formula ready to go in one cell and want to carry it into a whole row of adjacent cells. The ability to grab the cell itself is limited to a wee tiny area of the cell, which can be difficult to drag. This is a minor inconvenience, but quietly bothersome when that action is performed many times in a day.

MS Excel is overall a very great tool. I have been using this software for the past six years. It helped throughout my academic period, and I would give main credit to this software as it made my life easier. I would highly recommend this software to the youngster, and I would suggest they watch beginner videos of this software on youtube.

Pros

Excel has entirely different features, and it eventually substitutes some manual procedures like calculating on excel sheets are much simpler and safer than calculating manually. It helps me in managing my data and keeps my records on a day today. There are a lot of facilities through which I can perform multitasking through this software. I can work on two or multiple sheets at the same time. Functions like SUM, AVERAGE, COUNT, MIN, MAX, and many others have played a vital role in saving time and making work more efficient. In short, MS Excel is a versatile software.

Cons

Excel needs a user with proper knowledge about its features and tools. Initially, I could not make the most use of Excel because of a lack of knowledge about the tools and not being familiar with its features, so the process of doing and completing the task was much more complex and sophisticated for me. So at first, it could be a little difficult for the beginners.

The Power to Tell Your Story

I love Excel. It is my favorite tool, and makes it possible for me to truly love my job. The job I have now is 90% Excel spreadsheets of varying complexity. I stepped into a job that I don't have the appropriate accounting knowledge for, but the tools in Excel have helped me get up to speed very quickly, and produce high quality output.

Pros

I process massive amounts of data each month into a series of reports, payments, and regulatory filings. Excel gives me everything I need to take raw data dumps from a variety of systems and compile the data into a single workbook where I can compare, balance, and report monthly activity. Excel's capacity to provide layers upon layers of data is vital. Excel's rich Formula base gives you tools to take the information you have and turn it into the information you need. Whatever you think Excel can do, it can do more. After 20 years, I'm still learning new things all the time.

Cons

I honestly can't think of much I don't like about Excel, except that there is so much, that no matter what you know, there's more...or a better way, or an easier way, or a possible way. Getting help in Excel can be overwhelming because of the sheer number of options available. I can't say that I don't like that about Excel, but it could be daunting to some. I don't even know how to suggest to make it better. I love Excel and wouldn't want it any other way.

Microsoft Excel has become an indispensable part of my work routine. Its versatility is truly unmatched. From basic number crunching to complex data analysis, Excel handles it all effortlessly. The range of functions and formulas available empowers me to perform calculations with precision. Pivot tables enable me to transform raw data into meaningful insights, aiding decision-making. The ability to create visually appealing charts and graphs enhances my presentations. Excel's compatibility with other Microsoft Office apps streamlines my workflow, making it an essential tool for anyone dealing with data and analysis.

Pros

I really love using Microsoft Excel for its amazing data analysis and visualization capabilities. The way I can effortlessly turn rows of numbers into insightful graphs and charts is impressive. It helps me make sense of complex data by presenting it visually, which makes sharing information with colleagues a breeze. Excel's pivot tables are a game-changer too – they let me dissect data from various angles, revealing trends and patterns that might have gone unnoticed otherwise. This software truly transforms raw data into meaningful insights. Power Query and new array formulas so powerful.

Cons

One aspect of Microsoft Excel that can be frustrating is its performance when dealing with large data sets. As the data grows, the software slows down, and it sometimes becomes unresponsive. This can be especially problematic when working on critical projects with tight deadlines.
